Teeth Whitening

woman teeth before and after

Does the color of your teeth make your smile appear dull and drab? Then you may want to try professional teeth whitening. Professional teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure performed by Dickey Dental to brighten the appearance of your smile. It works by removing years of stains from the surface of your teeth so that they appear about 5-10 shades lighter. This non-invasive cosmetic dental treatment can be completed in as little as a single dental appointment and can dramatically brighten your smile.

Did You Know?

According to the American Dental Association, teeth whitening procedures are one of the most common cosmetic dental treatments. This is due to the fact that they are affordable, effective, and non-invasive.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Am I a candidate for teeth whitening?

You may be a candidate for teeth whitening if you have stained or discolored teeth that are otherwise healthy and free from decay. However, teeth whitening is not recommended for pregnant women, those with gum disease, or those who have sensitivity to whitening agents. To determine if you are an ideal candidate for teeth whitening, schedule a consultation with Dr. Dickey of Dickey Dental today!

What can I expect when having my teeth whitened at Dickey Dental?

When having your teeth whitened at Dickey Dental, you can first expect to have your teeth cleaned. This removes excess plaque and tartar to ensure there is a smooth surface for an even application of the whitening solution. Typically, Dr. Dickey will then apply a protective layer over all of your gums before applying a whitening agent to your teeth. This will give you an even application of the product and reduce the risk of gum irritation. The solution is activated and/or left in place for several minutes (usually about 30-60 minutes) before being washed off with water.

Will I need to follow any special guidelines after my appointment?

Once the whitening solution has been applied to your teeth, it will remain active for up to 24 hours. This means that it will continue to break apart discolored molecules in order to remove stains from your teeth. In order to get the most out of your whitening treatment, it is recommended to abstain from eating or drinking highly pigmented foods or beverages during the first 24 hours following your whitening treatment. This allows the treatment to work against existing stains rather than against new stains.

In some cases, you may also experience some minor tooth sensitivity after having your teeth whitened. To maintain your bright smile, we recommend brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting Dickey Dental at least once every six months for an exam and cleaning. In addition, Dr. Dickey may also provide you with take-home whitening kits that you can use for maintenance.
